Looking to expand the international tourism horizons of Malaysian travelers, Taiwan’s national Tourism Administration held the 3-day Taiwan Travel Fair from May 15th to 17th at Queensbay Mall in Penang, Malaysia. In addition, another two Taiwan tourism promotion events were held on May 19th in Kuala Lumpur specifically targeting the Muslim and Chinese travel operators, respectively. During these events, the Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration (Northeast Coast Administration) introduced both tourism operators and the public to the seasonal attractions, wide variety of themed tours, and Muslim-friendly tourism environment on offer across Taiwan’s Northeast Coast.

At the Taiwan Travel Fair's B2C promotion event, the Northeast Coast Administration showcased several of the region’s most popular attractions, including Jiufen Mountain Town, Turtle Island whale watching, silvergrass season along Caoling Trail, and Jiaoxi’s hot springs, highlighting the Northeast Coast's year-round appeal. Event booths invited visitors to learn more about Northeast Coast attractions and served up free samples of Halal rice cakes from Chenjiazhuang Farm and small gifts such as unique phone charms.

The Northeast Coast Administration has promoted and guided the development of Muslim-friendly environments for the past five years, and continues to help area businesses create Muslim-friendly dining, accommodation, and tourism service environments at their venues. While in Malaysia, representatives from the Yilan County Government, Ateneo Confectionery Factory, and Islamic Business Development Company’s Muslim verification unit visited Penang State Parliament Speaker Lau Tze-Chien to discuss Northeast Coast’s tourism attractions, seasonal themed tours, and Muslim-friendly tourism environments. Speaker Lau also spent time touring the Taiwan Pavilion and interacting with the various teams there.

During the B2B-focused Taiwan Tourism Promotion Conference on May 19th, the Northeast Coast Administration gave a tourism briefing on the Northeast Coast. The morning session, focused on Muslim tourism, introduced the region’s Muslim-friendly infrastructure, facilities, and services. The afternoon session, focused on Chinese tour operators, shared information on seasonally themed tours and the wide range of accommodation, cuisine, and in-depth experience options. The conference was aimed at opening new opportunities for cooperation and business with local tourism operators and further growing Northeast Coast inbound tourism.

Taiwan’s Northeast Coast region runs along the Pacific coast between New Taipei City and Yilan County, and is easily accessible from Taipei City via both road and rail. Its diverse tourism landscape includes coastal scenery, hot springs, gourmet food, old-street culture, and outdoor experiences, making it ideal for 1~3 day themed tours. The Northeast Coast Administration will continue deepening promotions in the Malaysian market and working to raise the international visibility of the Northeast Coast through themed tourism events and international exchange and cooperation activities with the goal of bringing more international visitors to the Northeast Coast and Yilan County to experience the charms of “mountain and sea” travel in Taiwan.
