Sun Moon Lake Advances Muslim-Friendly Tourism, Unlocks International Opportunities

Update Date: July 22, 2025

On July 22nd, 2025, the Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration (under the Tourism Administration, MOTC) presented the initial outcomes of the 2024–2025 Sun Moon Lake Muslim-Friendly Travel Environment Guidance Project at the Tourism Administration’s Travel Service Center, showcasing the area’s potential as an international Muslim travel destination.

Since its launch in October 2024, the project has worked with 20 businesses and awarded 24 Muslim-friendly certifications. These include 6 restaurants, 5 accommodations, and 7 prayer rooms, along with several shops, activity venues, and Halal products. Most of the area’s certified businesses are located in Puli, Yuchi, and Shuili Townships, where integrated travel routes are being developed that combine local characteristics with Muslim-friendly services.

Beyond certification, the project has organized training programs and study visits to help businesses better understand the cultural and religious needs of Muslim travelers. Also, bilingual travel materials and four itineraries have been created that conveniently interlink local attractions and facilities, further easing the work of travel planning for Muslim visitors.

Looking ahead, the administration plans to expand the scale and scope of this project. As more local businesses are certified, the administration looks forward to creating an internationally competitive and fully integrated Muslim-friendly travel destination and to positioning Sun Moon Lake as a safe and preferred destination for Muslim visitors to Taiwan.
